Running On Empty?
If you’ve been training with us for any length of time, you may have heard us talk about EATING. Regardless of age, weight, etc., training in martial arts is hard work! And to fuel our bodies for that work, we need to be eating right!
But where do we start? How do we know what we need, how much, and how often? The book “Eat Like a Champion” is a great start.
This book by Jill Castle is a great survey of not just basic nutrition, but also some great info for planning what you eat around what you do, and when. Check this book out at the Downers Grove Public Library, or wherever books are sold!
Sometimes, due to schedules or poor planning, we don’t give ourselves the ideal selection of meals or snacks when we need them, or god forbid we skip a meal here or there. Your body needs fuel to run, whether you feed it or not, so plan to eat something or suffer the consequences!
While nothing is as good as an honest meal with real food, there are products on the market that make “stop-gap” nutrition a little easier to manage. If you’re lucky, they may even taste a little like treats!
Multi-vitamins are a good place to start. These are chewy, fruity, and easy to take!
These cookies are high in protein, low in carbs/fats, and they actually look and taste like real cookies!
These bars are also high in protein and low on carbs, but have a texture something like a Kit-Kat bar.
Again, these are not as good for you as REAL MEALS WITH REAL FOOD, but are better choices than junk, or nothing! Find them at our local Vitamin Shoppe, or your local nutrition supplement store.
